Baptisms

We are always glad to be asked, and you do not need to be a regular churchgoer.

Baptism is where the Christian life begins, and we are always glad to be asked.

Children

We baptise children of any age. Baptisms usually take place on the second Sunday of the month, either during the 11am Mass so the whole parish can welcome the child, or at 12.30pm afterwards if you would prefer something quieter. Either is fine and neither costs anything.

Before the baptism we ask parents to come to two short evening sessions with Deacon Peter. They are not a test. They are a chance to talk about what you are asking for and to meet other families doing the same thing.

You do not need to be a regular churchgoer to have your child baptised here. If you live in the parish, or have some connection to it, please just ask.

Adults

Adults who wish to be baptised, or who were baptised in another tradition and are thinking about becoming Catholic, are welcome to speak to Fr Michael at any point. There is a group that meets weekly from September, and there is no obligation at any stage.

Godparents

You need at least one godparent, who should be a confirmed Catholic over sixteen. A second godparent may be a baptised Christian of another denomination. If that is complicated in your family, say so and we will work it out.

To arrange a baptism

Ring the parish office on 01632 960 118, or email Angela. She will take a few details and put you in touch with Deacon Peter.

Safeguarding

St Cuthbert's is committed to the safeguarding of children, young people and vulnerable adults. If you have a concern about the safety of anyone, whether it happened here or elsewhere, please speak to one of the people below. You will be listened to and taken seriously, and you do not need to be certain before you say something.
