Weddings

Congratulations. Please come and talk to us early, before you book anything else.

Congratulations. We would be glad to marry you here.

Start early

Please contact us at least six months before the date you have in mind, and preferably a year. There is paperwork, and the diocese and the register office both have their own timescales.

Do not book a reception venue before you have spoken to us and confirmed the date.

Whether you can marry here

Generally you can if at least one of you is a baptised Catholic, and if you live in the parish or have a real connection to it. If one of you is not Catholic, or not baptised at all, that is not an obstacle, though it does need a straightforward permission from the diocese which we will sort out.

If either of you has been married before, please tell us at the first conversation. It does not necessarily prevent anything, but it needs looking at properly and early.

Preparation

All couples marrying here take part in a marriage preparation course. Most people expect to find this a chore and most people are surprised. Deacon Peter runs it and it is four evenings.

What it costs

There is a fee set by the diocese, currently £320, covering the church, the priest and the paperwork. Flowers, an organist and a cantor are extra and entirely optional. If the cost is a difficulty, say so. It has never yet stopped a wedding here.

To begin

Ring the parish office on 01632 960 118 and Angela will arrange a first conversation with Fr Michael.

Safeguarding

St Cuthbert's is committed to the safeguarding of children, young people and vulnerable adults. If you have a concern about the safety of anyone, whether it happened here or elsewhere, please speak to one of the people below. You will be listened to and taken seriously, and you do not need to be certain before you say something.
